Festival of Speed
- Mark Nichol
This weekend (Friday 3rd - Sunday 5th July) will see thousands of petrolheads descend upon Goodwood's famous house as the annual Festival of Speed takes place. We'll be there to witness all the action first hand and we'll be taking our cameras with us - so if you can't get to the action, you'll get all the good stuff right here on Monday (6th July).
This year's theme is 'True Grit - Epic Feats of Endurance', which celebrates the drive and determination of some of racing's greatest heroes, including Jackie Stewart's victory at the '68 German Grand Prix with a broken wrist. Stewart himself will be there, along with Stirling Moss, Eddie Irvine and Lewis Hamilton, who among others will be taking a seminal collection of modern and historic F1 and racing cars up the famous Goodwood hillclimb. Don't miss that.

Audi is celebrating its 100th birthday too, so the maker will be taking centre stage with a massive 'central feature' art installation, which it promises will be astonishing. It will also be using a collection of legendary quattro rally cars to tackle the Goodwood Forest Rally stage. A host of current WRC teams and drivers will rock up and tackle the twisting forest course as well.
Then there's the Supercar Run, which as the name suggests is a showcase of the most exotic cars available in the world today. Highlights there will include the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss edition, the Ferrari California and the PlayStation inspired GTbyCitroen concept.
And regardless of whether you're more inclined towards the classics of the past or the potential of the future, there'll be something for you. The Cartier 'Style et Luxe' display will host some of history's most revered cars, including the Bugatti Type 57 and the ludicrous Aston Martin Bulldog Concept of the '70s, whereas the 'FoS-Tech' display will showcase the things that might be in store for us in the future. The Lola WorldF3rst, for example, is a racing car made from carrots and potatoes. Better see that early - it might be a pile of compost by Sunday.
